Alfa Romeo was founded in Milan in 1910 as Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili and adopted its current name after industrialist Nicola Romeo took control during World War I. The brand has an extensive motorsport history, winning the first two Formula One World Championship titles in 1950 and 1951, and its road cars have traditionally emphasized sporty handling and Italian design. Since 1986 the company has been owned by Fiat, which merged into the Stellantis group in 2021. Notable technologies include the Quadrifoglio performance variants, the carbon fiber monocoque of the 4C, and the extensive use of aluminum and carbon fiber in the Giulia's platform.
