The 1996 Nissan Maxima (J30) carried over largely unchanged from the redesigned 1995 model, with only minor equipment and trim adjustments across the GXE, GLE, and SE trims. It continued to use the 3.0-liter VQ30DE V6 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Common service considerations include timing belt replacement on schedule, since the engine is an interference design, along with valve cover gasket leaks and ignition coil wear. Automatic transmission fluid condition and suspension component wear are also worth monitoring on higher-mileage examples.
