The 1999 Nissan Frontier was part of the first-generation D22 lineup, offered in XE and SE trims with the 2.4-liter KA24DE four-cylinder engine, while a 3.3-liter VG33E V6 was available on four-wheel-drive models. Changes for 1999 were minor, consisting mainly of revised option packages and new exterior colors. Common service considerations include timing chain tensioner wear, valve cover gasket and rear main seal oil leaks, and rear axle bearing wear. Rust on the frame and body, particularly in northern climates, is a frequent concern on these trucks.
