The 2002 Nissan Frontier continued the second-generation D22 platform with minor trim and equipment changes, offering a 2.4-liter four-cylinder or a naturally aspirated 3.3-liter V6, with the supercharged V6 still available in the Desert Runner trim. Both engines use timing belts, and the 2.4-liter is an interference engine, so belt failure can cause major internal damage. Common service considerations include frame and body corrosion, particularly in regions that use road salt, as well as rear axle bearing wear and water pump replacement on higher-mileage trucks. Suspension components and brake hardware also tend to require attention as these trucks age.
