The 2006 Frontier was largely a carryover from the redesigned 2005 model year, with minor trim and feature adjustments rather than mechanical changes. It was offered in King Cab and Crew Cab configurations with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder or a 4.0-liter V6 paired with a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. Common service considerations include regular transmission fluid changes, as the automatic's cooler is integrated into the radiator, making radiator failures a known concern that can contaminate the transmission. Owners also commonly address timing chain wear on the V6, suspension component wear, and frame corrosion in regions that use road salt.
