The 1996 Pathfinder introduced the second-generation R50 model, switching from body-on-frame construction to a unibody design shared with the Frontier pickup. It was powered by a 3.3L VG33E V6 producing 168 horsepower, paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Common service items include timing belt replacement at the recommended interval, automatic transmission fluid changes, and inspection for rust on the frame and body. The four-wheel-drive system's transfer case and front differential fluids should also be serviced periodically.
