The 1997 Pathfinder was the second year of the R50 generation, which had been redesigned for 1996 with unibody construction and a 3.3-liter V6 engine. Changes for 1997 were minimal, limited mostly to color and equipment adjustments. Common service considerations include timing belt replacement, automatic transmission reliability, and rust inspection on the frame and body. Routine maintenance of the 4WD system and suspension components is also recommended for higher-mileage examples.
