The 1998 Nissan Pathfinder continued the second-generation R50 design with the 3.3-liter VG33E V6 engine and received only minor updates, mostly limited to trim and equipment adjustments. Common service considerations include timing belt replacement, which Nissan specifies at 105,000 miles, and inspection of the automatic transmission, since radiator cooler failures can contaminate the transmission fluid. Higher-mileage examples also frequently require attention to frame and body rust, worn suspension components, and 4WD actuator issues.
