The 1998 Sentra SR used the 1.6-liter GA16DE four-cylinder engine and received minor exterior updates, including revised grille and bumper styling. The SR trim added sport-oriented equipment such as a rear spoiler, alloy wheels, and firmer suspension tuning. Because the GA16DE is an interference engine, replacing the timing belt at the recommended interval is important to prevent valve damage if the belt breaks. Higher-mileage examples may develop valve cover gasket oil leaks, oil consumption, and rust in the rocker panels and underbody.
