The 1999 Sentra SR used the 2.0-liter SR20DE four-cylinder engine rated at 145 horsepower, along with sport-tuned suspension and 15-inch alloy wheels. For the 1999 model year, Nissan gave the Sentra revised exterior styling and interior trim, with the SR positioned near the top of the lineup. The SR20DE engine relies on a timing belt rather than a chain, so replacement at the recommended interval, generally 60,000 to 100,000 miles, is a key maintenance item. Higher-mileage examples may develop oil consumption, ignition coil failures, or automatic transmission problems, making service history worth checking before purchase.
